Today we went to Kelly Tarltons here in Auckland. It is labelled an Antarctic adventure where you can see penguins, go through a replica of Scott's hut in Antarctica and then go through the general aquarium type stuff. It is a great thing to do on a cold or rainy day as it's all inside.
Above is a snow cat that you can actually climb in and have a look around.
This is a replica of Scott's hut in Antarctica. It has been there since the 1920s or 30s. My parents who are here at the moment went on a cruise down there in January and went to the actual hut which has been preserved. They said this looked just like it.
Once in there you can get on a snow cat and go through the penguin exhibit. It is kept to below zero in there to keep the penguins happy.
My son and daughter both love this ride and seeing the penguins
You can just see the other snow cat in the background of this pic. From there we went and had a look at the giant stingrays and other fish (sorry my pics are blurry I took just the little camera).
Then came the standard aquarium moving walkway that seems to be everywhere. The kids to love them though. She also waved at the men in the scuba suits who were there cleaning the enclosure. Talk about an unusual occupation!
At the end of the visit we stopped by the eels, seahorses and tropical fish
It is a cool place that keeps the kids interested, and it's great to have an annual pass so we can go back often and gives us places to go!
Do you have any interesting places near you that you visit or can get annual passes for?
Looks like so much fu! I would love to visit something like this. We have a few drive thru safari places here but it's just been so hot oi need to do something inside!
